Why put up a clip without a post? This one is showing on every TV channel and movie hall.

Is this an advertisement or an adrenaline-rush? Healines Today, TimesNow, NDTV and all the Hindi channels have made a news item of this clip in their entertainment sections.

Is something gone wrong? Has the movie been grounded? What’s the controversy? Did Ajmal Kasab reject the teaser trailer?

BTW, the name of the movie is mis-spelt on the title of the post. But it doesn’t matter. The word is also mis-spelt in the title of the movie. The correct translit of the Hindi word for ‘Old Man’ is ‘Buudhah’. The ‘u’ is long and their is no single ‘d’.

Chalta hai, seems like another bollywood flick for slumdogs. Fun, fast and furious, all bollywood style!

  2. Would someone please tell me if it is Hoga “terra” baap, or hoga “tera” baap?

In my Hindi translator that would be: “Terror will be a Father” versus “Thy will Father”… lol…

Above is a pretty good example of the 50-50 distribution I have noticed.

Please enlighten me and I am sorry to ask such a dumb question, where the answer must be so obvious to all of you.

    • lol.. fabulous way to look at this Renate! It is TERA, not TERRA.. but of course, he is back and he is angry, so he is in every sense a Terror as well. :0

      • That’s why I was wondering, Sharmila. And really, if you look around, both spellings are used abundantly.

Just look at the trailer title above….

  3. Sharmila,

I had not read AB’s blog. It’s been so long, I had to google for it! Got it now.

It’s utter rubbish. AB doesn’t need to promote the film. Fatima is part of Eros International in South Africa. Eros also distributes films in all of Middle East, South East Asia and UK. Eros is based out of Malaysia and exhibits all the Khan movies. ‘Bbuddha…” is in safe hands. They will make it work for their own money.

Unlike the Khan movies, AB’s own productions are made on shoe-string budgets. They are not 100-150 Crore mega productions. He’ll recover his costs on the first day first show of the release.

The magic of the “angry young man” has faded in India. mainly AB’s own constituency, the Uttar Pradesh (Ganges belt) and Bihar. They cannot be drawn to the theaters by the internet. These days the movie releases on TV within a month of the release on theatres. And it’s free.

Speaking for myself, I can get at least 10,000 people to the movie hall in the first week. But not till I have seen the movie myself and accepted it.

  4. Renate,

Tera is the word here. Meaning ‘Your’. “Bbuddha.. hoga tera baap!”; Old… may be your dad!

Both Bbuddha and Terra are Mumbai slang of the original Buuddah and Tera.

Terror is closer to the effect of the movie. Unlike Charles Bronson, Al Pacino, Brando, Yule Bryner and other cowboy and mafia heroes, their counterparts in the Indian Film industry have a cult following.

AB is probably testing the waters for a revival of his own screen persona. I am sure it will work. There is more discontent in the society today than there was in the ’70s.

Bbuddha… wll be a super duper hit. It has the right stake holders. The usual Eros teams are already part of the movie’s production.

Aadesh Srivastav, the music composer, was the keyboard players in Anu Malik’s troupe who did the private stage show for Honroable Dawood Ibrahim in Dubai. The video of the program was aired for 3 days on a TV channel called Aaj Tak, till Dawood’s lawyers called in Live from London and threatened to sue the channel for defamation. The video showed top Hindi stars like Govinda, Anu Malik etc singing and dancing at Dawood’s party and Aadesh Srivastav playing the music on the small stage in the background.

These guys have the market cornered.

AB need never think of advertising and promotion. He’d waste his time and money. In the recent times, movies like Salman’s Dabbang etc have not been sold by the media. There is enough space in the market for these kind of films. Spending money on media is a waste.

Aamir’s Ppeli Live or Karan Johar’s movies need the media because of their off-beat themes.

Bbuddha.. is main stream commercial. There is no need for a media blitz.

    • Reader,

Thanks for the translation, I feel so handicapped sometimes…

AB may feel he needs the extra boost because his movie is going up against “Delhi Belli”. As you know, the EF is a lively lot and will brainstorm at the drop of a hat.

We’ll see how many of our suggestions he will implement.

But now – IT’S CRICKET TIME!!!

      • Indian Film Industry releases 600 films every year. That’s almost 10 every week.

That’s no competition for AB’s movies.

The ones that are going to face a set-back are the big tickets that will be released between now and the release of Bbuddah and another one of AB in the August.

There is one of Salman Khan’s movies titled ‘Ready’ releasing shortly and his campaign is stumped by the teaser of Bbuddah. He is unable to recover from the shock.

People may drop his movie to wait for Bbuddah. Hope he has a Plan B.

      • Yep, its the Ringa Ringa number vs Bbuddah.

      • Reader,

I think you are right about AB testing the waters.

He probably wonders how long an old man, however cool – and he is VERY cool – can keep a hold on this very young India.

John Wanamaker said, “I know half of expenditure done on advertising is wasted. I just don’t know which half.”

  6. Sharmila ji First promo of Bbuddha awesome & Our AB Sir Style, Dialogues, Action, Dance all are great…waiting for the film.

  7. Muraliraja Says:

This is one of the coolest trailers I have seen in recent times. Not a big AB fan. But will sure watch this movie for AB sir. I don’t think this movie will portray AB as Angry man. I guess his character might be like cool action hero. Like older version of Mahesh Babu Character in Pokiri. Puri’s strength always been the way he portrays his hero & the kind of dialogue he give to them. I’m sure he would have used both in this movie to the maximum extent & for Hindi audience this would be kind of new to them.
BTW, the reason for shoe string budget is possible because of 2 reasons. One, AB has not added his salary to the film’s budget(approx. 10 cr) two, the director & most of the technician are from south & traditionally compared to Bollywood, south Indian movie makers are good at making quality movies at shoe string budget. AB’s previous production Paa & Cheeni kum are perfect examples. Both had mostly technicians from south.

    • Thats a good point. He had used PC, Illayraja and yes, the south indian techies deliver quality stuff on shoe string budgets minus the fluff. AB has already covered his production costs vis satellite rights etc. Anything from now is just a bonus. Pokkiri is a firm favorite, Mahesh Babu was fabulous and must say I enjoyed vijay’s as well. VV comedy was probably his best to date in the movie, I think Prabhudeva did a darn good job in the tamil remake.

      • Muraliraja Says:

I watched Telugu Pokiri in a class 3 theater in Hosur with tri border audience. All of them unanimously liked the movie. In fact it is the only movie apart from Shivaji which successfully run for more than 75 days in Hosur. Even Tamil Pokiri unable to match that. Though Prabhudeva did a good job, I think Vijay acted like a clone of Mahesh Babu. VV comedy is one of his best. But his top 2 must be Winner & Thalainagarm.

      • Muraliraja,

I am sorry the delivery of your copy is delayed at London because I insisted on a hard cover. They have run out of prints.

Hoping to get a new print soonest possible.

      • Muraliraja Says:

        Absolutely no problem.
        Will wait for the copy.

  8. Sharmila,

‘Ringa Ringa’ and ‘Character Dheela Hai’ are night club numbers on the lines of ‘Munnni’ and ‘Sheila’. Salman has a reserved audience for that. In the ME, dance bars play them all night with some of the girls dancing like cheer leaders at IPL.

I am sure AB’s black-rap or whatever it is called will not challenge Sallu’s market in that sector. Night clubs play seductive numbers these days unlike the time when ‘Apni toh jaise taise’ of Lawaaris or Rekha-AB duets from Muqaddar ka Sikandar, Suhaag, Mr. Natwarlal, Khoon Pasina in the ’80s.

BTW, I got the music composer wrong. Aadesh Srivastav has not composed the music for Bbudhah. I don’t know why I thought of Aadesh. I think his name appeared with AB’s in one of the news clips. Can’t place that one why or for what.

  9. Anand Khare Says:

It takes just one Amitabh to sell diamonds worth millions.. while three Abhisheks to sell a sim of few Rs.

Abhishek is no small star just imagine stature of his father.

    • I hope Abhi-sheikh is not acting in this movie. The title will cause a flutter – after all AB is his ‘baap’!

    • Anand,

Madhur would be better off with a new face for this one. Back in the ’70s there was one from Hollywood on the same theme. The lead female goes through a crazy maze of night life in hollywood – everything from the ordinary couch-on-the-table to hetero-orgies, and finally an Oscar where she reveals her story.

In my opinion, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is too plastic for the role. Someone with a sense of humor and a face that is not too rich would be ideal. Like, one of Moon Sen’s daughters or the one in Madhur’s Page 3 whats-her-name.

  10. Anand Khare Says:

I agree with comment on Madhur’s new project. Aishwarya should realise that she is getting buddhee. Christening the film ‘buddhee ghodi lal lagam’ may not be a great idea.

I dont know what this story demand means. Is it the buyers of distribution rights? I don’t know who in this world may be interested in watching an old actress in nude.

The film idea is a flop at the begining itself.

    • Anand,

Madhur has this penchant for showing the dark side of glamor. I guess that would worth something if it had a proper mix of entertainment and thrills.

His films like Fashion and Page 3 were so rudderless, I lost track of the story line after a few minutes.

And his sense of music is also a bit hyper.

All in all, I think he is a sham-poo.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was stunning during her Miss World days. I saw her on stage with Chandrababu Naidu in some felicitation ceremony at the Banjara/Jubilee hills in Hyderabad or near abouts. That was a very long time ago. Naidu was the son-in-law of the great cameo artist NT Ramarao.

She must be close to 40 years now. She will look more like an agony aunt than an aspiring actress.

May be Madhur should do a “Jawaan Saas, buudhi bahu” with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in a double role!

  11. Anand Khare Says:

This will be a hit. Saas dee jawanee te bahoo dee pareshanee.

    Great idea.
